Standoff Ends With Burning House and Arrest

A man wanted on felony warrants is in custody after a wild standoff with Greene County deputies in west Springfield.

Deputies went to serve the warrants in the 2700 block of West Elm Street Wednesday when the man sought barricaded himself in the home. Negotiators worked for hours to get the man to surrender, but eventually the man set fire to the back of the home.

Officers rushed in when they saw the flames and brought the man outside, arresting him, and clearing the way for the Springfield Fire Department to put out the flames.

The arrested man was hospitalized after being struck with a “non-lethal projectile.” No deputies or firefighters were hurt in the incident.
