The Springfield-Greene County Health Department announced the county’s 18th death in the month of August caused by COVID-19.
SGCHD officials say the victim was a man in his 80s with underlying medical conditions who was in long-term care.
SGCHD Director Clay Goddard warned members of the public to be careful when dealing with family members in long-term care facilities.
“COVID-19 doesn’t get into these facilities on its own—it’s sneaking in with workers and visitors,” Goddard said in a statement. “We all have to be vigilant about masking and all of our prevention tools, including one of our most important: staying home when we are sick to protect our neighbors and our vulnerable loved ones.”
Earlier Thursday, the county reported their total amount of cases as of Wednesday afternoon was 2,805. The county is monitoring 1,350 active cases, with 112 new cases among Greene County residents.
The county has reported a total of 29 deaths from COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.
