Drury University had 35 student-athletes named Brother James Gaffney Distinguished Scholars by the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Named after Brother James Gaffney FSC, the former President of Lewis University for more than 27 years and two-term Chair of the GLVC Council of Presidents, the award is presented annually to student-athletes competing in GLVC-sponsored sports who achieve a 4.0-grade point average during the academic year.
Drury’s 35 Gaffney award winners is a department record and 20 more than they had a year ago. The previous high for DU Athletics was 19, set in 2017-18.
Five Drury student-athletes were repeat winners including Sam Marshall (men’s basketball), Nick Parker (men’s tennis), Spencer Weller (men’s tennis), Colton Johnson (men’s track & field), Brooke Stanfield (women’s basketball), and Megan Tersteeg (softball). Tersteeg’s award is the third of her career.
