The Springfield-Greene County Park Board’s day camp program will begin Tuesday, May 26.
Unlike previous years, the program will take place in one location and have limited capacity because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Summer Adventure Day Camp (ages 5-12) and Summer Quest Day Camp (ages 11-14) will take place at Pershing K-8 School with a limit of 150 campers. Parents who have not registered their children can place their name on a waiting list for openings in the program.
“We’ve gotten a lot of ‘thank you, thank you, thank you,’ from parents,” Diana Ellison, SPARC Administrator, said in a statement. “And we’ve had a lot of questions about how we’re going to make it fun and how we’ll keep kids safe.”
The reason the Park Board is not opening the Ritter Springs Day Camp is due to the bus transportation required for the outdoors-based camp which would be incompatible with the city’s requirements on gatherings related to COVID-19.
Park Board officials say anyone with questions or who needs information about what they’re doing to keep kids safe should visit their website or call the SPARC office at 417-837-5737.
