Sears is closing their Battlefield Mall store.
Signs went up in the windows of the store on Thursday announcing the closure and that the fixtures and equipment inside the store were for sale.
“After careful review, we have made the difficult but necessary decision to close the Sears store in Springfield, Missouri,” Sears parent company Transformco said in a press statement. “The liquidation sale begins this week and the store is planned to close in mid-April. We encourage customers to continue shopping on Sears.com for all their product needs.”
The company had originally announced in November 2019 they would be closing 100 Sears and Kmart stores, with their Joplin location on that list but not Springfield, making the sudden closure announcement a surprise.
Sears anticipates the store will close in mid-April.
