Council of Churches of the Ozarks Founder Dies

The man who founded the Council of Churches of the Ozarks has died.

Reverend Dorsey Levell passed away at the age of 86.

Rev. Levell has served as a pastor in the Ozarks for over a decade before founding Council of Churches in 1969. Over the next 31 years, he developed the organization that was aimed at bring churches of different denominations and beliefs together to help those in need throughout the Ozarks.

Visitation for Rev. Levell is scheduled for Monday from 5-7 p.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home at 1947 East Seminole Street in Springfield.

Funeral service will take place Tuesday starting at noon at Schweitzer United Methodist Church, 2747 East Sunshine in Springfield.
