The Missouri Valley Conference has released its 2019-20 men’s basketball schedules, the league office announced Tuesday (Sept. 3), with Missouri State opening Valley play for the upcoming season at home on New Year’s Eve.
After a 13-game non-conference schedule, the Bears open MVC play at home on Tuesday, Dec. 31 against an upstart Evansville team.
A road-heavy January slate features just three home games — Northern Iowa (Jan. 11), Bradley (Jan. 15) and Valparaiso (Jan. 23). The first month of 2020 will also include five road contests, starting with a trip to Loyola Chicago on Jan. 4 and continuing with games at Illinois State (Jan. 7), Evansville (Jan. 18), Drake (Jan. 26) and UNI (Jan. 29).
Coach Dana Ford‘s squad begins the month of February with home games against Indiana State (Feb. 1) and Illinois State (Feb. 5) with home matchups versus Drake (Feb. 12), Loyola (Feb. 22) and Southern Illinois (Feb. 29) later in the month. The Valley finale against SIU on Leap Day will wrap up the 18-game conference schedule as part of MVC Wildcard Weekend and MSU Senior Day at JQH Arena.
The State Farm MVC Tournament returns to St. Louis for the 30th season, March 5-8, at the Enterprise Center.
MSU’s non-conference schedule was released on June 27 and includes six home games, including the season opener against Little Rock on Tuesday, Nov. 5. The Bears will also play one home exhibition game on Wed., Oct. 30 against Washington University.
Ford returns a pair of All-Missouri Valley Conference starters and six lettermen in all from a 16-16 club of a year ago. The Bears also welcome six newcomers to the fold with three additional transfers gaining eligibility after sitting out last season to satisfy NCAA requirements.
