Glendale Musicians Rock Heavy Metal at State Competition

Not everyone at Glendale High School loves heavy metal if you’re talking about the musical genre, but they love the heavy metal the musicians at the school brought home after the MSHSAA state competition.

Band and orchestra students won a combined 21 gold and 15 silver medals at the state competition.

The band was lead by the gold medal winning percussion ensemble of Qwan Patterson, Matt Robertson, Landon Inmon, and Andrew McIllwain. Other gold medal winners from the band included Brett Carnes, Drew Robertson, John Cox, Matt Robertson and Melaine Polendo.

The saxophone quartet of Evan Derensky, Ethan Barney Stavrou, Brett Carnes, and Izzy Wead picked up a silver along with Lauren Derenski and Haley Nilsen.

The orchestra featured multiple medalists: Olivia Eddy and Maggie Linn each won two golds and a silver; Bailey Wise won two golds; Lexie Hammon, Gina Hoogstraet, Zoe Linn, and McKenzie Robbins each won one gold and one silver.

Winning one gold medal were Katie Church, Ellie Duncan, Tiffany Pierce, Charlie Robbins and McCleary Stark. Silver medalists were Bentley Bowman, Bair Brandt, Corey Elliott, Kylie Findley, Evan Langevin, and Meg Roseman.
