Greene County how has had 30 residents die because of COVID-19.
Springfield-Greene County Health officials announced Friday the death of a man in his 80s who had been in long-term care. His death is the 22nd of the 30 deaths to have some kind of connection to long term care.
The man also had underlying health conditions that contributed to his death.
“It’s not unexpected to have a number of deaths follow a case surge in long-term care facilities—but that does not make these losses any less tragic,” Director of Health Clay Goddard said in a press statement. “COVID-19 doesn’t get into these facilities on its own—it’s sneaking in with workers and visitors. We all have to be vigilant about masking and all of our prevention tools, including one of our most important: staying home when we are sick to protect our neighbors and our vulnerable loved ones.”
The county has seen 19 deaths from COVID-19 in August, more than all previous months of the pandemic combined.
