The Board of Education for Springfield Public Schools will be allowing two classes of students to take four day a week in-classroom education during the opening of the 2020-2021 school year.
The board decided that preschool age children will be able to attend the four days a week the district is holding classes, along with children who have special needs.
The board acknowledged that children with special needs have challenges to their education that are best served in a regular, structured classroom environment that virtual learning cannot provide.
The special needs students will be focusing on the functional skills or multiple disabilities classrooms, communication socialization and sensory classrooms, deaf or hard of hearing classrooms, and emotional behavior support classrooms.
The classrooms will have a limited capacity and special measures will be taken for the safety of staff and students.
