SPS Breaks Ground on New Williams Elementary

Springfield Public Schools held a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday afternoon for the new Williams Elementary school building.

The $15.6 million school renovation, mini early childhood center, and Boys & Girls Club is scheduled to be completed in August 2021.

“The building that previously stood on this site opened in 1930,” SPS Superintendent John Jungmann said. “For 90 years it stood as a cornerstone for this community…when the new Williams Elementary opens in August 2021, it will allow us to better serve the needs of our learners and provide an amazing, safe learning environment for all our teachers and learners.”

Initially, the facility was just scheduled to be renovated, but after looking at design and material costs, it was determined a new facility was the better, more cost-effective option. The redesign also allowed for the inclusion of a Boys & Girls Club facility.
