A new radio station has taken to the air in Springfield: 98.7 The Dove.
The Dove, with a lite rock mix of hits from the like 60s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s from artists like Billy Joel, Phil Collins, Whitney Houston, The Beatles, and Sting, takes over the 98.7 frequency that was home to sports-talk format The Jock. The Jock is now heard on 96.9 FM, 99.9 FM, and 1060 AM.
The Dove will also bring to Springfield the return of beloved morning team Kevin & Liz, who have won multiple awards as the Ozarks favorite morning show team. The duo will begin their new show on 98.7 The Dove at 5:30 Monday morning.
98.7 The Dove is the first major format change by Zimmer Midwest Communications (ZMC) after their entry into the Springfield market.
ZMC entered into a local management agreement with Meyer Communications on July 1. Zimmer is waiting for FCC approval to take full ownership of the wide-coverage area stations, according to a press release from the company.
“It’s a great day for our company to enter the greater Springfield, Missouri, market with such heritage properties,” ZMC co-owner John Zimmer said in a statement. “The stations feature the most powerful signals and largest coverage areas to serve the Ozark region. We’ll carry great local content of news, opinions and analysis that matters, help inform and entertain people, and provide sound marketing solutions for local businesses. The greater Springfield region has been a great driver of growth in the state of Missouri and we are proud to be of part of the expansion. We look forward to making a positive impact and difference for the community and businesses with our local solutions and stations to promote the economy of the Springfield, Missouri region.”
In addition to 98.7 The Dove and Jock 96.9/99.9/1060, the stations under the ZMC umbrella include 101.3 The Outlaw and heritage news/talk KWTO, established in 1933 with the call letters standing for Keep Watching The Ozarks. Those stations are the flagships for Missouri State Bears sports, the Springfield Cardinals, and University of Missouri sports.
