The Greene County Sheriff’s Office has reported an inmate testing positive for the virus that causes COVID-19.
The Office was notified by the Department of Corrections that three inmates who had been transported by deputies from the jail tested positive at their new prisons. The GCSO then rescreened 769 inmates and found one that was showing symptoms of the disease.
The inmates was tested and found to be positive for COVID-19.
The inmate was taken to a local hospital for treatment and the housing unit where they had been staying was isolated and tests are taking place.
Masks were issued to all inmates, and the existing inmate population will be screened. In addition, all arrests brought to the jail are screened for COVID-19.
