The drummer for top local band Paralandra was shot over the weekend during a domestic violence related incident.
Dakota Watson was shot in the head and arm during the weekend incident at an apartment complex on Valley Water Mill Road. Watson went to visit a friend who recently broke up with her partner. The woman’s ex showed up at the apartment, forced their way in, and shot Watson in the arm and head.
The accused shooter fled the scene and was taken into custody Saturday in Dallas County. He had led Dallas County Sheriff’s Office deputies on a chase in the early hours of Saturday morning but escaped, before calling police and turning himself in.
One of Watson’s bandmates told OI that the drummer was lucky in that the path of the bullet went across his forehead.
“[The bullet] missed his brain,” Paralandra guitarist Paul Carson told OI. “He’ll need reconstructive surgery for the end of the week and because of the damage the doctors say they’ll have to work from the inside out.”
Carson said the doctors were amazed that Watson has vision in his eyes because of damage to the occipital bone.
“It’s a complete miracle he’s no worse off than he is,” Carson said.
Watson’s friends are organizing a GoFundMe campaign to help the medical costs for Watson’s emergency treatment and ongoing recovery.
