Springfield Little Theatre announced their new season on social media Wednesday, featuring one children’s production from 2020 that was postponed due to COVID-19 and a off-Landers production that is moving to the big stage.
The season kicks off with The Last 5 Years, a musical that tells the rough relationship of a couple with his story being told from the start of the relationship, and hers from the end being told backward. The show will take place from August 13-30, 2020.
Then on September 10-20, 2020, one of Springfield Little Theatre’s best off-main stage productions is coming to the main Landers Stage. Forbidden Broadway’s Greatest Hits was such a smash hit in July 2019 when it played for crowds of less than 75 at Nathan P. Murphy’s, SLT officials brought it back for an encore weekend. The show, which features parodies of some of Broadway’s biggest shows and stars, is not for the faint of heart.
Clue: The Musical will follow on October 23 to November 8, 2020. The musical follows the general theme of the famous board game, with the audience interacting to help determine the suspect who committed the killing and the weapon used by the killer.
Angels will be getting their wings with SLT’s fourth show of the season, the classic It’s A Wonderful Life. The play will run from December 3-13, 2020. The stage production is very similar to the classic Frank Capra film starring Jimmy Stewart.
SLT will return from their Christmas break and launch into the new year by climbing every mountain and fording every stream. They’ll follow every rainbow into a production of the classic The Sound of Music from January 29 to February 14, 2021.
Things get groovy from February 25 to March 7, 2021 when SLT will produce Shout! The Mod Musical. The show, which features 5 women living in the 1960s. The women all send letters to a writer with the magazine Shout! in an advice column. The show features some of the biggest hits of the 60s including “Don’t Sleep in the Subway”, “These Boots Are Made for Walkin'”, and “Downtown.”
The kids take the stage for a very sweet production from April 1-11, 2021: Willy Wonka, Jr. It tells the classic Roald Dahl story with a young cast.
The Windy City hits the Landers from May 6-23, 2021 when the classic musical Chicago becomes SLT’s eighth show of the season.
The season will end with Matilda, the Musical, a production for the youth of SLT, will end the 86th season. This show was scheduled to be a part of the 85th season of SLT, and was ready to begin, when the COVID-19 lockdown closed the community. The show will run June 11-27, 2021.
