The 2020 Nixafest was cancelled Wednesday by the Nixa Chamber of Commerce.
A statement from Chamber CEO Chris Russell said the decision to cancel the event was because of a “request from our local Christian County Health Department.”
“We had planned a fun celebration socially distanced out including kids rides, food trucks, live music, farmers market area and a few community booths in downtown Nixa for August the 8th,” Russell said in the statement.
Russell’s statement said the current recommendations and guidelines from the Health Department “would make it impossible to host the event as planned.”
“We respect the current guidelines and do not want to jeopardize the health and safety of all those involved,” Russell said. “We regret this decision had to be made, but in deference to public safety, it was necessary.”
