A teenager stole a Jeep and lead law enforcement on a chase across South Springfield on Saturday afternoon that included cutting across a local golf course.
Greene County Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on a Jeep Wrangler that did not have license plates near the West Bypass and Kearney intersection. One person jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot, then the vehicle took off, initiating a pursuit.
Deputies then used the Star Chase system to shoot a GPS tracking puck onto the Jeep, which allowed police to track the vehicle without an active, high-speed pursuit.
The driver then fled to the area of Horton Smith Golf Course near Scenic and Seminole. Greene County Deputies responded to the area and were able to stop the suspect’s vehicle when he left the golf course.
The driver was taken into custody without further incident. Both the driver and the passenger were booked into the Greene County Jail.
