Ozarks Technical Community College canceled their August 19, 2020 Commencement Ceremony scheduled for JQH Arena at Missouri State.
The event was the make-up for the original event, canceled on May 16, which was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We spent the last three months planning, reimagining and doing everything in our power to create a safe event for our graduates and families to celebrate their incredible achievements,” OTC Chancellor Hal Higdon said in a statement. “But, after considering the growing rate of infection in southwest Missouri, we realized that the event, no matter how well planned, poses too much risk for our graduates, their guests and our employees.”
All of OTC’s 2020 graduates will be invited to participate in next year’s 2021 graduation ceremonies. Diploma covers will be mailed to graduates, who should have already received their diplomas in the mail.
A special video feature will be released on August 19 at 6 p.m. which will feature the scheduled graduation speakers including NBA player Anthony Tolliver.
