The Springfield Police Department has named the victims in today’s back-to-back accidents that resulted in the deaths of two pedestrians.
Detectives say that the victims are 48-year-old Richard D. Gardner and 52-year-old Scarlet R. Turner.
The SPD reported to a call about pedestrians that had been hit by vehicles on eastbound Chestnut Expressway between Boonville and Jefferson.
Police determined that a white, full-size Ford pickup truck Gardner, and then fled the scene. When Turner when to help Gardner, both of them were struck by a 2014 Hyundai Sonata drive by Jeremy Behrends, 49, of Springfield.
Gardner and Turner died at the scene.
Springfield police are searching for the white pickup involved in the accident. The truck is missing the passenger side mirror and possibly has oversized tires. Anyone with information is asked to call the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or call Crime Stoppers at 417-869-8477.
