Springfield Sewer Rates Increasing July 1

It’s going to cost a little more to flush your toilet starting July 1.

A rate increase is coming to those who use the city’s sewer system on July 1, as part of an order to continue the upgrade of the sewage system and to meet the requirements of the Clean Water Act.

The rates for sewage for customers for the year is determined by usage in January, February, and March. This step is taken to determine average water usage without such things as watering lawns or filling up swimming pools. Most of the water used by residents goes down drains or toilets; thus the three winter months better represent that usage.

The average residential user will see their bills increase around $1.60 a month.
