Springfield police have confirmed the shooter in the Golden Pond incident on June 17 was the resident of the apartment where two men tried to break in.
Investigators now say they believe Joshua Woods, who died after being shot in the incident, was part of a duo that attempted to break in to the apartment. Woods was rushed to a hospital where he died of his wounds.
Police say Woods was just outside a third-floor apartment trying to force his way in when the resident shot him from inside the apartment.
No charges have been filed against the resident of the apartment and the second suspect in the break-in is still at-large.
