A former Missouri State basketball star has been hired an assistant coach for the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies.
Blake Ahearn, a MSU Bear from 2003-2007, joins the Grizz after spending three seasons as head coach of the Austin Spurs in the developmental G-League. The team had a 76-66 record under Ahearn’s leadership, including a league championship in 2018 over Toronto’s developmental team.
According to a press release from the team, Ahearn will work in player development including the shooting department.
Ahearn set NCAA records at Missouri State for career free throw percentage and single season free throw percentage. After his 2007 graduation, he played professional basketball around the world including short stints with the NBA’s Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, and played in the 2012 postseason with the Utah Jazz.
