Lake Springfield Park closed Friday after an early afternoon fire in the park’s maintenance shop.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, and nobody was injured in the blaze. The fire caused extensive damage to the maintenance shop’s offices, garage, and roof. Significant damage to various vehicles, machinery and supplies took place.
Fortunately, the gasoline and gas cans for the equipment was stored away from the building and were not impacted by the fire.
The maintenance shop is located on the top of a hill in an authorized-access only area, meaning the Lake Springfield Boathouse was not impacted.
Fire departments from Springfield, Battlefield, Logan-Rogersville, Ozark, and Nixa responded to the fire.
“We are incredibly relieved that no one was hurt in the fire, and we’re thankful for the speedy response and amazing coordination of all five fire departments, who worked together to put out the flames and help keep park patrons at a safe distance,” Bob Belote, Director of Parks, said in a statement.
