Evangel University’s Director of the Center for Student Success has been named a 2020 Icon of Education by Ingram’s Magazine.
Dr. Jon Spence’s department assists students with strength-based leadership, academic support and accomodations, career developments, and retention strategies.
“I was honored to be considered by Ingram’s,” Spence said i na statement. “Then when I saw the list of those being recognized, I was really humbled to be among such outstanding achievers in education.”
In addition to his normal duties, Spence serves as a Leadership Studies instructor, faculty advisor for the EU Scholars Honors program, and advisor to Social Science student teachers.
“I am honored to be a part of a team committed to helping students understand their identity in Christ while pursuing their vocational calling,” Spence said.
Spence, who played football for the Crusaders in the mid-80s, earned his master’s degree at Missouri State University while working at Springfield Public Schools. He joined Evangel in 1988 and then earned a doctorate from the University of Missouri at Columbia.
Ingram’s, a Kansas City based publication, honors ten educators in Missouri and Kansas for the honor. This year, nine serve at the college or university level.
