Springfield police say they have arrested a juvenile in connection with a fiery crash in West Springfield.
A juvenile was driving by a home that was under surveillance by the Fugitive Apprehension Unit of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. When the driver saw the deputies, they fled at a high rate of speed, striking the railroad crossing on Warren. The gas tank of the car exploded when they made impact with the crossing.
The Greene County Sheriff’s deputies did not chase, so there was no high speed pursuit of the vehicle.
After the tank burst into flames, the driver then drove into two additional vehicles which caused those vehicles to burn.
An employee of the Paul Mueller company heard the crash outside their facility, came outside, and confronted the suspect who pulled a handgun and fled on foot.
Springfield police then located the driver at a house in Springfield and took him into custody on a juvenile warrant.
