National Guard to Help Local Food Pantry Because of Demand

A local food pantry is gaining the help of the National Guard to meet the needs of every family seeking help.

Least of These in Nixa has seen a 30 percent increase in the number of families asking for help during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Missouri Army National Guard is helping the pantry with distribution through the end of June because of the demand.

“Having the Missouri Army National Guard has allowed us to continue to serve families in need in Christian County,” Kristy Carter, Executive Director of Least Of These, said in a statement.  “With only four staff members and many volunteers who are in the high risk category of the Coronavirus, it would have been nearly impossible to provide our community with approximately 50,000 pounds of food each week without the National Guard’s help.”

The pantry has listed five food distribution days in June:

  • Wednesday, June 3rd  |  8:00 AM – 11:00 AM
  • Friday, June 12th  |  8:00 AM – 11:00 AM
  • Thursday, June 18th  |  5:00 PM – 6:30 PM
  • Monday, June 22nd  |  8:00 AM – 11:00 AM
  • Friday, June 26th  |  8:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Christian County residents who need food for their family can fill out an application at the Least of These Food Pantry website. After the application is received, a volunteer will contact the family to make an appointment to receive food.
