The reigning World Team Tennis Champions might not be defending their crown at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
World TeamTennis announced that they will be creating a unique schedule in response to the coronavirus outbreak that would result in all teams playing their matches in one city. The season would run for three weeks in the same venue to maximize safety to players, coaches, and staff.
“Safety for all involved remains at the forefront of our decision-making,” WTT CEO Carlos Silva said in a statement.
The league announced they are in discussions with various cities to be the host of the league for those three weeks. The league will be considering things like CDC protocols and the state and local health regulations that would be in effect during the three week play period.
Lasers General Manager Paul Nahon told OI he couldn’t really comment on where the league may play the games, but he could say that Springfield was not out of the running as host of the league for the season.
