CU Warns Reopening Businesses About Water Lines

City Utilities is warning businesses who interact with the public to take precautions with their water lines before opening up after the stay at home orders and closure of businesses.

CU released a statement reminding business owners that stagnant water, such as those sitting in a pipe for a month, could provide the environment for the spread of dangerous bacteria. The bigger concern is for hot water lines, where temperatures of the water will fall well below normal temperatures.

CU officials are encouraging businesses to follow the CDC’s recommendations for reopening which includes flushing the hot and cold water systems within buildings. Information on the most effective way to flush water systems is located on the CDC’s website.

If you reopen your business and flush water systems but still can’t attain the water quality you had before shutting doors, contact City Utilities at 417-831-8391,
