Stockton Lake Man Believed Shot Was Actually Killed by Own Vehicle

Initial reports that a fisherman was found shot and killed at Stockton Lake has turned out to be completely incorrect.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says that 61-year-old Kurt Surber was killed when he was struck by his own vehicle as he was trying to either launch his boat or get the boat out of the lake.

Initial reports from officials in the Stockton Lake area were that a fisherman had been found dead with an apparent gunshot wound. They had speculated that the killer had taken off with the victim’s truck and boat.

Instead, the boat was found nearby along the shore, and the victim’s truck and boat trailer were found in deep water near the boat launch.

Missouri State Highway Patrol investigators have ruled the incident a “non-traffic” fatality and an accident.
