Springfield Contemporary Theatre announced they have started a relief fund to help offset the costs associated with the shutdown of the theatre due to COVID-19.
“This was the rare instance when the show simply couldn’t go on,” SCT officials said in an email.
The email stated the “financial threat to SCT is immense” because of ongoing fixed expenses. While the theatre has cut significant amounts of costs, the theatre still needs to meet fixed expenses like utilities and rent.
The theater says they’ve already received $29,000 in donations from supporters to keep the theatre going until they can reopen.
Donations are being taken through the SCT’s website.
