The man who killed Hailey Owens in 2014 has had his appeal turned away by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Craig Wood, sentenced to the death penalty for the assault and murder of Owens, had appealed questioning if juries must find all facts necessary for a death sentence or if judges can play a role in the determination. The Court refused to consider the appeal.
As is custom when declining a case, the Court did not offer an explanation.
Wood was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder on November 2, 2017, and sentenced to death by Judge Thomas Mountjoy in January 2018.
Wood’s case was tied in with another convicted killer from Nebraska which argued the same grounds for their appeal.
