Springfield Groups Seeking “Art Heroes”

Springfield Arts Organizations wants to virtually scour the community to find the newest “Art Heroes.”

The Springfield Regional Arts Council is hosting an interactive community-wide challenge in conjunction with other arts organizations.

“The arts keep us uplifted, active, and entertained no matter what is going on,” Captain Springfield, Michael Underwood, said in his call to action.  Underwood is helping to spearhead the competition.

Springfield Art Heroes is open to entrants of all ages. There are five different art challenges:

  • Visual Arts with the Springfield Regional Arts Council
  • Dance with the Springfield Ballet
  • Instruments with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra
  • Poetry with the Springfield Regional Opera
  • Film with Plotline Film

“The art challenge is an opportunity to keep everyone creating together even while we are separated, and so we can all support and celebrate each other!,” SRAC Director of Exhibits and Programming Rachel Johnson said in a statement.

Anyone who completes and tracks all five activities will receive free admission to the 2020 Cider Days/Artsfest Mega Days on Walnut Street in September. All participants will be entered in a drawing to win an Artsfest Swag Bag.

If you want to take part in the event, visit springfieldarts.org/artchallenge every day between April 20 and April 24. The deadline for entry is May 8.

Entrants are encouraged to share their work on social media with the hashtag #ArtHeroSGF.
