Charges Filed in Ozark Woman’s Death

A 50-year-old man has been charged in the death of a woman found inside a home in Ozark on March 13, 2020.

Darrell Hamilton is being held on first degree sodomy charges in the death of 45-year-old Amy Phippen. More charges are expected to be filed against Hamilton related to the death of Phippen.

According to court records, Hamilton called a relative and said that Phippen had fallen and he thought she may have died from the fall. The relative called police who found Hamilton at a home on South Street where they found the body of Phippen.

Investigators say that Phippen’s body was found partially nude in a bedroom and that her body was covered in bruises.

An autopsy said that she was malnourished and had pneumonia but the report did not say that those factors led to her death.

Detectives confirmed that Hamilton committed a sexual assault on Phippen and are continuing to investigate the incident.

Hamilton, who has a significant criminal record, is in the Christian County Jail on $100,000 bond. He is being represented by “special public defender” Victoria Faulkner according to Missouri Casenet. Christian County Prosecuting Attorney Amy Fite is leading the prosecution.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for April 28, 2020, in front of Judge Douglas Bacon.
