The area’s hotel occupancy has taken a major decline in the wake of the state’s stay at home restrictions according to a new release from the head of the Springfield, Missouri Convention and Visitors Bureau.
According to the posting by Tracy Kimberlin, hotel occupancy in the area for the week of April 5-11 was down 66.9 percent, to 21.2 percent occupancy. Room revenue was down 76.4 percent.
The industry update from Kimberlin included some good news for the future of the hotel industry in the area: the extension of the contract of the National Christian Homeschool Basketball Championships.
The tournament brings $4.5 million in revenue each year into the local economy. With over 350 teams, at least 10,000 people a year visit the community because of some connection to the event.
