CoxHealth has acknowledged the furlough of employees during a downturn in elective procedures in the COVID-19 fallout.
Kaitlyn McConnell of CoxHealth told OI that 285 employees were furloughed, but that 183 of those employees have been redeployed to other positions within the CoxHealth system.
The moves are aimed at offsetting what McConnell termed as “considerable losses” because hospital volumes have been cut in half. She said that the hospital is working to find solutions to balance hospital finances and employee wages.
She stated that even with the reductions, they were able to extend annual raises to front-line personnel. CoxHealth has also been able to create a $2.7 million ETO fund for employees that are facing time off work because of COVID-19, and a $1 million Healthcare Heroes fund for work-related expenses of employees fighting the outbreak.
