Drowning Victim at Lake Springfield Identified

A rescue team from the Missouri State Highway Patrol has recovered the body of a man from Lake Springfield on Saturday night they believe is the one reported missing earlier in the day.

The Highway Patrol has identified the man as Timmothy Richardson of Springfield. The Patrol has indicated they believe it to be an accidental drowning and Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene by Tom Van De Berg of the Medical Examiner’s office.

Richardson’s family reported him missing and told authorities they had not heard from him since 10:45 p.m. the previous day.

His vehicle was found parked near the dam at the Lake, and the his kayak was found a half-mile from the dam with his cell phone inside.

The search had been initially conducted by the Springfield Fire Department before turning it over to the Patrol Saturday evening. It was the first fatal boat crash for Troop D this year.
