Olympic level softball will not be kicking up dust at Springfield’s Killian Sports Complex this June.
The Springfield-Greene County Park Board announced the cancellation of the sold-out doubleheader exhibition by the U.S. Olympic Softball Team scheduled for June 3.
“We understand the disappointment that may come with this decision as the softball community has waited 12 years to see the sport of softball return to the Olympic stage and have a U.S. Olympic Softball Team come to their city,” USA Softball’s said in a statement. “Although the wait for our sport’s return to the Olympic Games has been delayed a bit longer, we can’t wait to watch these resilient athletes get back on the field when the day finally comes.”
USA Softball is considering rescheduling the “Stand Beside Her Tour” for 2021 in preparation for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
The Springfield-Greene County Park Board has started the process of issuing refunds to ticket holders. Refunds can take 2-3 weeks to complete, but the Park Board anticipates having them finished by April 15.
If you purchased tickets on a credit card, you will see the money refunded to the card. Anyone who bought a ticket with cash or check will receive a check from the City of Springfield.
If you are a ticket holder who does not get a refund by April 15, contact the Killian Sports Complex at 417-837-5817.
