Mercy Springfield announced they will be blessing a “forward triage” facility at Mercy Hospital Springfield.
The new triage facility will be located outside the hospital’s north emergency room entrance and will open immediately after the blessing.
The triage will provide help and masks for those who believe they have been infected by COVID-19.
The move is being done to protect patients who come to Mercy’s ER for non-COVID-19 related issues. A Mercy staff member will perform initial triage and if someone is suspected of having COVID-19, they will be isolated from the rest of the patients and treated in that isolated space.
A potential COVID-19 patient showing serious illness will be taken into the hospital through a separate entrance to minimize exposure to patients and staff.
