Salvation Army to Adjust Programs During Coronavirus Outbreak

The Salvation Army has announced they will be making changes to various programs during the coronavirus outbreak amid requests from health officials to limit the size of groups.

The following programs are facing changes:

1. The Food Pantry, located at 1707 W. Chestnut Expressway will continue to be open on Wednesdays. Instead of doing an in person intake in the building, we will be operating a drive through food pantry until further notice. Recipients will need to drive to back of the building and volunteers or employees will load the food directly into your car. A valid picture i.d. will be required and we are requesting proof of residency for either Greene or Christian County (this can be a piece of mail within the last 30 days) to show to our workers. We will not be handling these items.

2.Our Daily (7 days a week, 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.) Front-Line Feeding Program located at 636 N. Booneville will have the following temporary changes until further notice: Per the National CDC directives on guidance for “social distancing “we are reconstructing our food distribution so that mass crowding is minimized and dispersed. As of Tuesday, March 17th, the dining room of Harbor House will no longer be accessible to the public for the Front-Line Feeding Program. All food will be served in mobile “take out” boxes.

The distribution pointwill be as follows:

1.At the east side of the building (the back side).

2.PossibleCanteen deployment-when needed.

3.At this time and starting today, our offices located at 1707 W. Chestnut Expressway will be closed through March 31st or until further notice –therefore we will not be able to accept any guest(s)or visitors. We will have several of our employees working from home. For those seeking Emergency Social Services, we ask you to visit the following link to our website where you can submit an email to us. Our Emergency Social Services office will be receiving your emails and will get back to you as soon as possible.  Please visit us at: https://www.salvationarmyspringfield.org/contact-us/ to send us a message.

4. As of today, Tuesday March 17, 2020, Our Senior Meal Lunch Program, located at 1707 W. Chestnut Expressway will be temporarily closed. At this time, our senior citizens in need of a lunch are being encouraged to receive “to go” lunch boxes at the Harbor House location (636 N. Booneville). The Harbor House Front Line Feeding program has been restructured for this accommodation and we hope that everyone who needs it will take advantage of it.

5. Our Family Enrichment Center (housing for homeless families) located at 1707. W. Chestnut Expressway and our Harbor House (housing for homeless men) located at 636. N. Booneville will remain open as our residents have nowhere else to go. In addition to our daily cleaning schedule, we have added extra cleaning steps to both shelters. We are also communicating to our guests about proper hygiene practices etc. We have signage up with general guidelines pertaining to the virus, and we have referral information available for those who are concerned about their health.

On a one-on-one basis and as needed, we are visiting with concerned individuals – providing them with the recommended guidelines and necessary referrals.

6. Our Sunday Church Services and weekly activities will be cancelled until March 31st or until further notice. We will be streaming live on our Facebook Page on Sunday mornings. You can visit our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/SalvationArmyOzarkArea

All other Salvation Army operations continue as scheduled.
