A woman who is a foster mother to five, including a new premie still in the NICU, and mother to her own four children, is fighting to recover from a tragic car accident that has left her severely injured.
Amanda Acree, 34, suffered a broken wrist, all of her ribs, shattered thigh, broken ankle, and has had to have one of her feet amputated according to her husband Jason Acree. According to information posted on a GoFundMe page, Amanda has been undergoing painful surgeries on the wrist and the amputation site.
Amanda, a former social worker who started her own practice, was the sole financial provider for the family as her husband cared for the children. Now her husband is having to care for all of the children plus handle all the arrangements for his wife to recover from the horrific car accident.
A police report says the accident took place on Saturday morning when a vehicle driven by Angela Acree suddenly swerved and hit a concrete traffic barrier at a 90 degree angle. Angela was pinned in the vehicle. Five of the family’s children were in the vehicle but suffered only minor injuries.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family cover medical expenses, food for the children, babysitters so Jason can be with his wife at the hospital, and other expenses during Amanda’s rehabilitation.
The fundraising website is hoping to raise $25,000 to help the family navigate this traumatic time.
There is also a website set up to provide meals for the family called Meal Train. Users can sign up to provide meals on specific days for the family. Those that sign up on the can also contribute gift cards to delivery companies like GrubHub or Postmates to allow the family to choose their own meal.
