Highway Patrol Asking Public’s Help in Sexual Assault Investigation

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help with a case connected the recent arrest of a Kansas couple.

Carl Mort, 41, and Cassandra Wedeking, 39, were taken into custody after an incident at Lake of the Ozarks and charged with rape, sodomy, and drug charges. The charges are part of an investigation that covered the entire Lake of the Ozarks region and three County Sheriff’s offices.

Investigators from the Patrol are looking into the possibility that the accused may have carried out other sexual assaults in the Lake of the Ozarks area over the last five years. They believe that the couple would make friends with their victim, provide alcohol or drugs, then take them to a boat and assault them.

MSHP is asking anyone with information, especially victims or potential witnesses, to contact the Troop F Criminal Unit at 573-526-6329, extension 3632.
