The Springfield-Greene County Health Department has opened the nomination process for the Harold K. Bengsch Award, given to someone who makes outstanding efforts in the fields of public health.
Nominations for the award will be taken through March 13 and can be made through an online form.
Criteria for the award are:
- Demonstrate commitment to the values of public health (e.g., community-based approaches to health and prevention, equity for all people, collaborative spirit, ethical decision-making, etc.);
- Have significantly contributed to improving and protecting the health of citizens of Greene County;
- Have contributed to a broader understanding of public health;
- Have a primary place of employment within Greene County, but outside the current employment of the Springfield-Greene County Health Department.
Greene County Commissioner Bengsch, for whom the award is named, worked for the Springfield-Greene County Health Department for 45 years including 20 as director.
