Springfield PD Warns of Scams in Quarterly Report

The Springfield Police Department has released their 4th quarter 2019 Quarterly Report and are warning residents about the danger of internet scams and scam phone calls.

In 2019, the Springfield PD received almost 1,000 reports of internet crimes.

“We don’t want to see the citizens of Springfield fall prey to scams and we hope that with a few simple tips, we can safeguard them from losing money or becoming a victim of identity theft,” Police Chief Paul Williams said in a statement.

The quarterly report, available below, also highlights Missouri’s Move Over Law. The importance of moving over when you see vehicles on the side of the road is in the spotlight after a tow truck driver was struck and killed north of Springfield this weekend.

In the fourth quarter of 2019, crimes against persons was up 10 percent compared to the previous year, with property crime up 28 percent compared to 2018.
