Nixa city officials are alerting the public to scammers attempting to deceive Nixa Utilities customers.
City officials say that a Nixa Utilities customer reported receiving an automated phone call that her account was past due. She was told that she needed to make a payment within 30 minutes of the call or her power would be disconnected.
Nixa officials say that while customers may get an automated call if their account is past due, that call will never demand payment within a certain amount of time. Also, the automated call will not allow someone to make a payment to Nixa Utilities.
Nixa Utilities customers who have questions about an automated call on their account is encouraged to call the main number for the utility: 417-725-3229.
