History Museum on the Square Named America’s Best New Attraction

The best new destination to take your family in the entire United States is on the downtown square in Springfield.

The History Museum on the Square has been named USAToday’s 2019 10Best Readers Choice Award winner for #1 Best New Attraction. The award comes after a national vote of 20 different attractions.

“This is beyond exciting for us. Now the rest of the country will know what a treasure we have here in the Ozarks,“ museum executive director John Sellars said in a statement. “We are incredibly grateful for the community for helping us win this honor.”

The Museum is thanking the community by offering half-price admission this weekend, January 11th and 12th.

The Museum was nominated as one of the Top 20 new attractions in the United States by a panel of experts before voting by the public took place in December.

The museum features a number of temporary exhibits but also six permanent galleries:

•             Native Crossroads at the Spring

•            Trains, Trolleys and Transportation: Children’s Education Area

•             Pioneers and Founders at the Crossroads

•             The Civil War in Springfield

•             Wild Bill Hickok and the American West; and

•             Birthplace of Route 66
