A woman who was seen being rushed from a burning home on January 2 undergoing life saving measures has died at an area hospital from her injuries.
Springfield Fire Department officials released confirmation of the death of Katheryn J. Thompson.
Firefighters were dispatched to Thompson’s home in the 2900 block of East Belmont around noon on January 2 and found the building fully involved. The firefighters had discovered Thompson overcome by smoke and began life saving measures at the scene.
The fire marshal is still investigating the cause of the fire.
Thompson is the first fire fatality of 2020 in Springfield.
