Police Identify Springfield Man Found Dead Monday; Autopsy Shows No Traumatic Injuries

The Springfield police department has released the name of the man found dead inside a home at 2722 West Madison in Springfield Monday afternoon.

Police say that the victim was 56-year-old Carl D. Barnett. Tom Van De Berg of the Greene County Medical Examiner’s office told OI that Barnett’s autopsy did not show any traumatic injuries that would have caused death; the office is waiting for toxicology reports and a doctor to examine tissues to see if health problems contributed to Barnett’s death.

Police say that investigators are continuing their investigation and have spoken to a man that also lived in the home and reportedly had an altercation with Barnett, but that he was released without charge.

Anyone who has information about Barnett is asked to call the Springfield Police Department at 864-1810 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 417-869-8477.
