A man is dead after a police related shooting at 521 East Lakota Court in Springfield.
Springfield police say that they were dispatched to the location because of a 911 call that said a woman was being assaulted at the house and that assault was still taking place.
When police arrived, they found a male suspect assaulting a female as they entered the home. The male suspect then held a weapon on officers who fired, striking the suspect and killing him.
The identities of those involved are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The victim in the incident was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Neighbors told reporters that the woman involved had an order of protection filed against the suspect, but a police spokesman could not confirm an order was in place.
A police spokesman said the officer involved in the shooting is on administrative leave pending the investigation, which is standard procedure for a police-related shooting.
