Two of the state’s ten medical marijuana testing facilities will be located in southwest Missouri.
The two companies awarded the licenses, Botannis Labs Mo. Corp and ContiCorp LLC, were the only companies from the area to apply for testing facilities. The laboratories will make sure the medical marijuana products being sold through dispensaries are free of chemicals and mold or other fungi. They will also test the products for levels of THC.
The first license went to Bontannis Labs Mo. Corp., which will locate their facility at 215 North Grant Avenue in downtown Springfield. The other southwest Missouri license went to ContiCorp LLC, which is listed as having their facility at 109B South Main Street in Galena.
The majority of licenses were for facilities that would be placed along the “I-70 Corridor” between St. Louis and Kansas City.
The state licensed ten facilities when the state law required only two. The move was cited as a way to increase protection for Missourians.
“Because laboratory facilities will be required to work hand-in-hand with our other licensed facilities and they play an important role in the safety of this program, we opted to license ten of these facilities to ensure Missouri patients have access to the best medical marijuana products available,” Lyndall Fraker, director of the DHSS Section for Medical Marijuana Regulation, said in a press statement.
