Springfield Police Investigating Murder in West Springfield

One man is dead after a shooting in west Springfield and the Springfield Police Department have the accused shooter in custody

Police say that around 10:43 p.m. Friday December 13th, a 911 caller reported an accident at Kansas Avenue and Mount Vernon Street. When officers arrived on the scene, they found 28-year-old Gerardo Aguilar-Hernandez inside a vehicle with a life-threatening gunshot wound.

The victim died Saturday morning at Mercy Hospital from his wounds.

Springfield Police arrested 17-year-old Pedro Bolanos of Springfield in the shooting. Bolanos was arrested after fleeing the scene and being tracked down by police. Bolanos was booked on first-degree assault charges and was being held without bond in the Greene County Jail.

As the victim has now died, a recommendation from investigators to increase the charges to murder has been presented to the Greene County Prosecutor.
